As the director of a local high school theatre program, I am always carefully observing how other directors interact with their casts, direct their actors, and create the entirety of a production. So when I had the opportunity to act alongside and be directed by Mandy Bruno Bogue, having seen her perform in Les Miserablés on Broadway, I was watching—to both observe and learn to better myself and my work in theatre. I was thoroughly impressed both with her overall vision as a director and with the clear and satisfying camaraderie she endeared among those of us working on the project. She is generous in her praise and in her constructive criticism. Her instincts are natural and real in the way she creates and draws out characters. I so strongly admire the grit and determination with which she pushes herself and those around her, daring them to become better. Our experience with Mandy has been wholly positive. She has taken her vast experience in the Performing Arts and shared it with many students. She is selfless in how much she gives to them. While the house may be filled with proud parents on the night of a show, you can see how much her students mean to her just by looking at her while they bear their soul on stage. She gives that to them. She takes their talent and shows them how to push the envelope to give the best performance they can give night in and night out. She also shares her talents alongside her students providing them guidance through these shared performances.
